Residents Platinum Visado
two routes to the same cover

Platinum is Sanitas’s mixed visa product, arranged with no copayments, and no waiting periods on the core health cover. The same benefits can be arranged two ways: through the contracted medical network in Spain, or through a worldwide network of participating centres with prior authorisation. Entry closes at age 64.

The Difference

What Platinum adds

No copayments — sin copagos You do not pay a separate per-use copayment when you use covered services under the policy. What that covers.
Sanitas pays the clinic directly in-network For covered services used within the Sanitas contracted network in Spain, or at a worldwide participating centre with prior authorisation, the conditions provide that the insured does not have to attend the payments — Sanitas settles with the provider. The reimbursement feature applies only if you choose the permitted out-of-network route, where you pay the provider and claim back. It is not how network treatment is normally paid, and it is not a copayment.
No waiting periods on the core cover — sin carencias Residents Platinum Visado has no waiting periods on its core health-insurance cover. Some supplementary covers listed in the General Conditions have their own qualification periods. Your Particular Conditions show which of those covers and periods apply to your policy. The full explanation.

Residents Platinum Visado provides Sanitas private healthcare in Spain with no copayments, and no waiting periods on its core health-insurance cover, subject to the policy terms and the insurer’s acceptance of the application. Some supplementary covers listed in the General Conditions have their own qualification periods; your Particular Conditions show which of those covers and periods apply to your policy. “No copayments” does not mean every possible treatment or expense is covered — it means no per-use charge for services that are covered under the policy’s terms.

Residents Visado arranges care one way: through Sanitas’s contracted network in Spain. Platinum keeps that and adds a second route. The conditions describe it as a mixed product — a network modality and a reimbursement modality, covering the same benefits.

Route 1

The Spanish network

The same arrangement Residents Visado uses. Consultants, GPs, paediatrics and emergency centres in the contracted network, with prescription and prior-authorisation steps for tests, surgery and inpatient treatment.

Route 2

The worldwide participating network

Where the insured uses the contracted network in Spain or the worldwide network of participating centres with prior authorisation, the conditions provide that the policyholder does not have to pay the provider directly. Prior authorisation is the operative part of that sentence.

The two modalities cannot both apply to the same benefit. Which route a given treatment takes is settled by the conditions and the authorisation. Reimbursement is not a copayment. A copayment is a per-use charge on covered care, and this policy has none. Reimbursement is a separate mechanism: where you use a provider outside the network, you pay that provider and claim back at the percentage set in your Particular Conditions.

Check This First

Platinum closes at age 64.

64

Entry is open up to and including age 64, assessed on the policy start date — not on the day you enquire. A birthday between now and your intended start date therefore counts.

Where an applicant is above that age on the start date, the choice is settled before any benefit is compared. Residents Visado stays open to age 75. The age guide works through both.

Suitability

Who may value the second route — and who may not.

Platinum may be relevant if…

  • You will be aged 64 or under on the intended policy start date
  • You expect to spend meaningful time outside Spain and want cover that reaches participating centres elsewhere
  • You are willing to work with prior authorisation rather than arranging care and settling up afterwards
  • The reimbursement structure matches how you actually expect to use a policy

Compare Residents Visado if…

  • You will be over 64 on your start date — Platinum is not open to you
  • You expect to use doctors and hospitals in Spain and nowhere else
  • You would not use the second route enough to justify paying for it
  • You want the widest age eligibility of the two visa products
What Both Products Share

The parts that are the same

Platinum is not a different kind of policy. Much of what matters is common to both visa products:

No copayments Neither Visado product charges a separate per-use copayment for covered services.
No waiting periods on the core cover Core health-insurance cover runs from the effective date on both products. On Platinum, some supplementary covers have their own qualification periods. The full explanation.
A medical questionnaire Required, at application stage. The agreement is closed on the basis of the declarations made in it. What that means for a condition you have.
The under-14 rule Persons under 14 can only be included where the people holding their custody or guardianship are insured too.
The visa variant matters Platinum, like Residents, has a separate Visado version. Confirm the product name on your documentation before submitting it.
Not sure the second route is worth it for you? Tell us your dates and how you expect to use the policy, and an adviser will go through both products before you commit to either.

Repatriation

Repatriation is listed as covered

Repatriation, with an accompanying traveller’s ticket, is listed among the services Platinum covers. The scope of that cover is set out in the policy documents issued with an individual policy, and no monetary limit is stated in the summary documentation.

If repatriation matters to your decision, read what repatriation cover means first. On the Residents product it does not mean medical evacuation. Confirm the position for your own policy from the documents you are issued.

The Decision

Platinum or Residents?

Two things decide it, and the rest is common ground. Age comes first: Platinum closes at 64 on the intended start date, where Residents Visado stays open to 75. Above that line the question answers itself. Within it, the question is whether you would use the second route — because a structure you never use is still reflected in the premium.

Questions

Platinum, answered

No copayments — sin copagos. You do not pay a separate per-use copayment when you use covered services under the policy. Do not confuse this with the reimbursement route: using a provider outside the network means paying that provider and claiming back a percentage, which is a different mechanism, not a copayment. And no-copayment does not mean everything is covered — it means no per-use charge for services that are covered under the policy’s terms.
Some Spanish consulates expressly require health insurance without copayments, while published wording varies between consulates. Always check the current requirements of the consulate handling your application. The Visado products are arranged without copayments and waiting periods — check both points against the current requirements published by your consulate.
The second route. Both arrange care through Sanitas’s contracted network in Spain; Platinum adds a worldwide network of participating centres, and where that route is used with prior authorisation the conditions provide that you do not pay the provider directly. The two modalities cannot both apply to the same benefit.
No. Entry is open to age 64 inclusive, assessed on the policy start date. Above that, Residents Visado is the visa product that remains open, to age 75. The age guide covers the bands.
No. The second route runs through a worldwide network of participating centres, and it operates with prior authorisation. It is a wider network, and the authorisation step is part of using it.
No waiting periods on its core health-insurance cover — that runs from the effective date of the contract. Some supplementary covers listed in the General Conditions have their own qualification periods, and your Particular Conditions show which of those covers and periods apply to your policy. All of that is separate from how a condition you already have is treated, which depends on your declarations and the insurer’s underwriting decision. The full explanation.
That depends on whether you would use the second route. If you expect to spend time outside Spain and would use participating centres there, it is doing something Residents does not. If you expect to use Spanish network doctors and nothing else, the additional structure may not earn its place. The comparison sets both out.
Platinum carries more structure than Residents Visado, and structure is reflected in the premium. What drives the price.
