Residents or Residents Platinum?
Two Sanitas visa products, both arranged with no copayments. Residents Visado has no waiting periods at all; Platinum has none on its core health cover. Two differences decide between them: the age the policy is open to, and whether care can be arranged outside the Spanish network. Everything else that matters is common to both.
Where the decision actually lands
Check the age first. Platinum is open to age 64 inclusive; Residents Visado to age 75. Both are assessed on the intended policy start date, not today. Above 64 on that date, there is no comparison left to make — Residents Visado is the visa product still open.
Then ask where you will use it. Within both age ranges, the question is whether you would use Platinum’s second route: a worldwide network of participating centres, with prior authorisation, alongside the Spanish network both products share.
What differs.
| Residents Visado | Residents Platinum Visado | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry age | To age 75 inclusive | To age 64 inclusive |
| When age is assessed | Policy start date | Policy start date |
| Care in Spain | Sanitas contracted network | Sanitas contracted network |
| Care outside the network | Not covered, apart from the life-threatening emergency route | Worldwide participating centres, with prior authorisation |
| Structure | Network modality | Network and reimbursement modality, over the same benefits |
| How treatment is paid | Sanitas pays the network provider directly for covered services. No out-of-network reimbursement route. | Sanitas pays directly for covered services used in-network or at a participating centre with prior authorisation. Reimbursement applies only on the optional out-of-network route. |
| Copayments sin copagos | None — no per-use charge for covered services | None — no per-use charge for covered services |
| Waiting periods sin carencias | None — all coverages available from the effective date | None on the core health-insurance cover; some supplementary covers have their own qualification periods |
| Medical questionnaire | Required at application | Required at application |
| Under-14 rule | Insurable only where the people holding custody or guardianship are insured too | |
On payment, both work the same way where it matters most: for covered services used through the Sanitas network, Sanitas settles with the provider directly, so neither product asks you to fund treatment and reclaim it. Platinum adds the optional out-of-network reimbursement route on top of that — not instead of it.
Both are visa variants with their own conditions. Confirm the product name on your documentation reads Visado before submitting it anywhere.
Which one may be relevant.
Residents Visado may be relevant if…
- You will be over 64 on the start date — it is the visa product still open to you
- You expect to use doctors and hospitals in Spain
- You would not use a second route enough to justify paying for it
- You want the widest age eligibility of the two
Platinum may be relevant if…
- You will be 64 or under on the start date
- You expect to spend meaningful time outside Spain
- You are content to work with prior authorisation rather than settling up afterwards
- The reimbursement structure matches how you expect to use a policy
How it plays out in real applications
Both products are open. The decision is use, not eligibility: would the second route be used often enough to be worth paying for? Someone who will live in Spain and travel rarely is choosing between a policy they will use and a structure they may not.
Both within both age ranges, so both products remain available to each of them. Worth checking each birthday against the intended start date before assuming the position holds for the whole application.
Platinum is closed. Residents Visado is the visa product still open, to age 75. There is no trade-off to weigh here — the comparison ends at the age gate.
A joint application where the two applicants sit either side of the limit. One person is inside Platinum’s range and one is not, and the age test applies to each insured person rather than to the application. Worth raising before quoting, because it shapes how the policy is built.
Platinum carries more structure, and structure is reflected in the premium. If the second route would not be used, the comparison is between two prices for one product’s worth of value. What drives the price sets out the factors the conditions name.
What stays individual
Two things no comparison table settles, because they depend on you rather than on the products:
- Your own medical history. How a condition you already have is treated depends on your declarations and the insurer’s underwriting decision — the same process on both products, and separate from the waiting-period rule. What that involves.
- Your premium. The age attained and the geographical zone are among the factors the conditions name, so the gap between the two products is not a fixed figure. What drives the price.
