NLV health insurance for couples
Two people applying together are assessed as two people. Each of you has your own age on the policy start date, your own health questionnaire and your own eligibility — and that is where most of the surprises come from, because a couple born a few years apart can find different products open to them.
What changes when there are two of you
Age is tested per person, on the intended policy start date. Not the older partner's age, not an average — each of you individually.
The health questionnaire is per person too. One partner's medical history does not decide the other's terms.
Everything else is common ground. No copayments on either Visado product, the same Sanitas network, and Sanitas paying the provider directly for covered network care.
Where a few years between you actually matters
The two Sanitas visa products open to different ages, and both are read on the start date:
| Your age on the start date | Residents Visado | Residents Platinum Visado |
|---|---|---|
| 64 or under | Open | Open |
| Over 64, up to 75 | Open | Closed |
| Above 75 | Outside the published entry ages — ask for a review rather than a quote | |
A couple straddling one of those lines is the single most useful thing to tell us early. It shapes the conversation before anyone prices anything. The full age guide.
Four couples, four different conversations
Both products open to both of you. Nothing about the pairing complicates it, so the decision is the ordinary one: would either of you use Platinum's second route enough to justify it? The comparison settles that faster than a quote will.
This is the one that catches couples out. One of you sits inside Platinum's entry age and one does not, and no amount of applying together changes that: the age test applies to each insured person. Tell us both dates of birth at the outset and we will set out what is open to each of you before anything is priced.
Then the age that counts is the one on the start date, not today. A birthday falling before cover begins can move one partner across a line that the other never approaches. Worth checking both birthdays against the date you actually intend to start.
Each application is assessed on its own declarations. Your partner's history does not attach to you, and yours does not attach to them. What you should both do is answer accurately — the agreement is closed on the basis of those declarations. How disclosure works.
What is the same for both of you
What to have ready
- Both dates of birth, checked against passports. One mistyped year changes the age a premium is built from, and on a couple it can change which products are open.
- The start date you both intend. It is the date each age is read on, and cover does not begin until the first premium is paid. Choosing a start date.
- Where in Spain you will be living. The geographical zone is one of the factors the conditions name in building a premium.
- Any birthdays falling before that date. Flag them — they are easy to leave out.
No medical questions at this stage. The health questionnaire belongs to the insurer's own application process, later.
