A family policy is built person by person, and there is one rule that
shapes the whole household before anyone prices anything: children under 14 can only be
insured where the adults who hold their custody or guardianship are insured too.
Persons under 14 can only be included in the insurance if the people who hold their
custody or guardianship are also insured, unless the parties agree otherwise.
In practice that means you cannot insure the children alone. The adults responsible for
them are part of the same arrangement, which is worth knowing before you start comparing
anything.
It is a straightforward rule, but it decides the shape of the application — so it
belongs at the beginning rather than as a surprise at the end.
How It Is Assessed
Everyone is assessed individually
A household application is not one assessment covering everyone. Each person to be insured
brings their own:
Age, read on the intended policy start date. That decides which products
are open to each adult. Children sit well inside both entry ages; the adults are where the
limits bite. The age guide.
Health questionnaire. Completed per person in the insurer's own
application process. One family member's history does not decide another's terms.
How disclosure works.
Place of residence in Spain. The geographical zone is one of the factors
the conditions name in building a premium.
What this means practically: a household where two adults are years apart in age may find
different products open to each of them, while the children's position is unaffected.
How that works for a couple.
Preparing
What to gather for a household
Every person to be insured, named. Adults and children. An application
is assembled per person, so check nobody who needs cover is left off the list.
A date of birth for each, from their passport. Not from memory — a
mistyped year changes the age a premium is built from.
Who holds custody or guardianship of any child under 14. Those adults
need to be insured on the arrangement too.
One intended start date for the household. Every age is read on that
date. Choosing it deliberately.
Where in Spain you will be living.
Nothing medical at this stage — not for the adults and not for the children. The
questionnaire belongs to the insurer's application process, later.
Send us the householdDates of birth for everyone to be insured and the start date you have in mind. An adviser will confirm what is open to each person before anything is priced.
No copayments — sin copagos
No per-use charge for covered services, for any insured person on the policy. It does not
mean every treatment is covered.
What that covers.
Sanitas pays the clinic directly
For covered care through the network, you are not funding treatment and claiming it back
— which matters more with children than with anyone.
Paediatrics in the network
The contracted network covers paediatrics alongside general practice, consultants and
emergency centres.
Care at home
Family medicine, paediatrics, nursing and emergency care at home, where Sanitas has an
arrangement locally.
Waiting periods differ by product: Residents Visado has none; Platinum has
none on its core health cover, with some supplementary covers carrying their own
qualification periods. The detail per product.

Get a quote for the whole household
Tell us everyone who needs cover, their dates of birth, and the start date you have in
mind. An adviser confirms what is open to each person and prepares a quote, subject to
eligibility and underwriting.
Not for children under 14. They can only be included where the people
holding their custody or guardianship are insured too, unless the parties agree otherwise.
For that reason a household application usually starts with the adults.
Each insured person is assessed in their own right, including for the
health questionnaire. In practice the age limits bite on the adults rather than the
children, who sit well inside both products' entry ages.
The contracted medical network includes paediatrics alongside general
practice, consultants and emergency centres, and paediatric care at home is included where
Sanitas has an arrangement locally. What is covered in your own case is set out in the
documents issued with your policy.
The start date is what every age is read on, so it is the detail to fix
first for the household. Tell us the date you intend and an adviser will confirm the
position for each person against it.
Your quote reflects the people being insured and the cover being
arranged. We do not publish discount structures — an adviser confirms what applies
with your quote.
Your policy documentation is issued by Sanitas once the application is
complete and the first premium is paid. Ask us to go through it with you before you submit
anything, so you know what each document is for.
