Renewing your Sanitas NLV policy
These are annual policies that continue from year to year on the terms set out in the contract. You do not reapply, and you are not re-assessed for entry age — the entry-age limits are about taking a policy out, not about keeping one.
What renewal actually involves
The policy runs for a minimum of one year and renews on the terms set out in the contract. It continues rather than restarting.
The premium can change at renewal. The conditions provide for actuarial revision, and the age attained is one of the named factors — so a renewal premium is not automatically last year's premium.
Entry-age limits do not reapply. They govern taking out a policy. Passing an entry age while insured does not end the cover you already hold.
What happens, and roughly when
- Cover begins. The first premium is paid and the policy takes effect on your start date.
- Within two months of that date — send Sanitas your visa. The conditions require documentation proving the visa was issued to reach Sanitas within two months of the policy start date; if it does not, the contract terminates automatically. This is the one date to diarise on the day you buy.
- Through the year. You use the cover through the Sanitas network. Tell Sanitas within eight days if you change address.
- Approaching the anniversary. The insurer notifies premium changes ahead of renewal, in the manner and timescales the contract sets out.
- The anniversary. The policy continues into its next annual period on the contract's terms.
And what stays the same
Stays the same
No copayments for covered services. Direct settlement with the provider for covered network care. The Sanitas contracted network. Your product — you are not moved between products by the passage of time.
Can change
The premium, which the conditions allow to be revised at renewal, with the age attained among the named factors. Your own circumstances, if you move within Spain, since the geographical zone is also a named factor.
Before each anniversary
- Check the people on the policy are still the right ones. Households change. Adding or removing someone is a conversation to have before the anniversary rather than after it.
- Check your address is current with Sanitas. The conditions require notice of a change of address within eight days, and where you live is one of the factors behind your premium.
- Read the renewal terms when they arrive. If the premium has moved and you want to understand why, ask — the factors are knowable rather than mysterious.
- Keep your documentation together. Policy conditions, particular conditions and certificate. What each document is.
If your circumstances have changed enough that you are wondering whether a different Sanitas product would suit you better, ask before the anniversary. Whether a change is available, and on what terms, is a matter for Sanitas under your policy — and eligibility would be considered at that point rather than carried over from when you first applied.
