Application Help

How to apply for Sanitas NLV health insurance

You begin by requesting a personalised quote. Once we have reviewed which Sanitas route fits, we set out the application steps and what will be needed. Here is how that works, step by step.

The Route

Four steps, in this order.

There is no application form on a public page. When you are ready to proceed, tell us, and we will take you through the application stage.

1
You request a quote. Ages, intended start date, destination and applicant details. No medical or health information is asked for at this stage, and none should be sent.
2
We review the request. Which of the two Visado products fits, and whether the ages sit inside the entry limits for it.
3
Your personalised quote arrives by email — setting out the product, what it covers and what it costs for the people you have told us about.
4
You tell us you want to proceed. We then explain the application steps and what information and documents will be needed — identity, address, policy choices and the health questions.
After Your Quote

What happens after your quote.

Start by requesting a personalised quote. If you decide to proceed, we’ll explain the application steps and what information or documents will be needed.

Entry ages differ between the two Visado products and are assessed using each applicant’s age on the intended policy start date. We therefore check the proposed start date and ages before moving to the application stage.

We may introduce a secure application link sent by email in the future. It is not currently a public application route on this website. For now, contact us when you are ready to proceed and we’ll guide you through the next step.

At The Application Stage

What you’ll be asked for.

Described at category level. The precise document list isn’t published here yet — see the open items below — and we’d rather tell you nothing than tell you a list that turns out to be wrong.

WhatWhy it’s asked
IdentityName, date of birth, nationality and an identity document, for each person to be insured.
AddressWhere you are now, and where you’ll be living in Spain. Premiums are calculated using the age attained and the geographical zone.Source: General Conditions Cl. VI.4.7.
Policy choicesThe product, the intended start date and how many people are to be covered.
Payment preferenceThe premium is annual, and may be divided into biannual payments with a surcharge. Payment is by direct debit or another expressly agreed method.Source: General Conditions Cl. VI.4.3 and VI.4.6.
Health questionsA health questionnaire, answered individually by each person to be insured. The agreement is closed on the basis of those declarations.Source: General Conditions Cl. VI.1.
Medical Information

Health questions belong to the application, and nowhere else.

The quote form asks for no medical or health information, and you shouldn’t put any into it — including in the free-text box. The contact form takes an optional indication that you would like to discuss a pre-existing condition, and nothing beyond that: no diagnosis, medication or treatment details.

Health information is collected only at the application stage, where it is used to assess the application. Answering it accurately matters: the conditions are explicit that the agreement is closed on the basis of the declarations made in the questionnaire, and that inaccurate or omitted declarations give the insurer rights it would not otherwise have.

If something in your history is complicated, ask us before you start. We can go through what the questionnaire is actually asking.

After You Submit

Three things the policy conditions settle.

Everything below is taken from the conditions themselves. What follows it is the part we won’t guess at.

1
Sanitas assesses the application on the basis of the declarations made in the health questionnaire.Source: Cl. VI.1.
2
The first premium must be paid before cover takes effect. Cover does not begin on submission, or on acceptance — it begins once the first premium is paid.Source: Cl. VI.4.1.
3
After the visa is issued, evidence of issuance must reach the insurer within two months of the policy start date; otherwise the contract terminates automatically under the stated terms.Source: Cl. VI.3.3(d).

On timing

How long an application takes depends on the insurer’s own process and on whether underwriting needs anything further from you, so we do not attach a figure to it. If you are planning around a submission date, tell us the date and we will tell you where things actually stand for your application.

The same applies to when your documentation and certificate arrive, and in what order — ask us and we will chase it with you rather than leave you guessing.

Get Started

Start with a quote

Tell us the ages, the dates you’re working to and where you’re heading. We’ll come back with a personalised quote, and set out what happens next if you decide to proceed.

No medical information is collected at quote stage.

Common Questions

Your questions, answered.

Not from a public page. You begin by requesting a personalised quote. If you decide to proceed, we explain the application steps and what information and documents will be needed. We may introduce a secure application link sent by email in the future, but that is not a route on this website today.
The product and your eligibility for it are reviewed before the application stage. Entry ages differ between the two Visado products and are assessed using each applicant’s age on the intended policy start date, so we check the proposed start date and ages first. Tell us when you are ready to proceed and we will take it from there.
Identity details for everyone to be insured, the address where you’ll be living in Spain, your intended start date and a payment preference. Ask us and we’ll tell you what applies to your application.
Only at the application stage. The quote and contact forms ask for no health information at all, and you shouldn’t put any into them. Each person to be insured answers the health questionnaire individually.
Sanitas assesses the application on the basis of the health-questionnaire declarations, and cover begins once the first premium is paid — not on submission and not on acceptance. Beyond those two points, how the outcome reaches you and how long it takes are not documented here, because they are not yet documented properly at all.
We don’t publish a timescale, because we don’t have one we can stand behind. If you are working to a fixed date, tell us the date and we’ll tell you what we know at that moment rather than a number that reads well on a web page.
