Paying For Your Policy

NLV health insurance payment options

How you can pay for a Sanitas Visado policy: by credit card annually, or by direct debit from a Spanish or European bank account annually or twice yearly — and when a consulate receipt means it has to be annual.

The Short Answer

Two things decide how you can pay.

How you pay for a Sanitas Visado policy depends on the payment method you choose, and on whether your consulate wants to see proof that twelve months have already been paid. Those two together decide whether you can spread the premium or whether it has to be paid in one go.

  1. By credit card — the premium is paid annually.
  2. From a Spanish bank account — annually, or twice yearly.
  3. From a European (SEPA) bank account — annually, or twice yearly.

Monthly payment is not offered on these Visado products. If you have seen a monthly figure quoted for Sanitas cover elsewhere, it will be for a different product.

Payment Methods

What each method allows.

Credit card
Annual payment. No bank account needed and no IBAN is collected, which suits applicants who have not opened a Spanish account yet.
Spanish bank account
Annual or twice yearly, by direct debit. Needs a Spanish IBAN, so it tends to suit people who have already opened an account.
European SEPA account
Annual or twice yearly, by direct debit from a European IBAN. You do not need a Spanish account to arrange cover.
Not offered
Monthly instalments are not available on the Visado products, whichever method you choose.
The Receipt Question

If you need proof of twelve months paid in advance.

Some applicants are asked to show a receipt proving the policy has been paid for twelve months up front. Where that applies to you, the frequency is restricted to annual — you cannot show twelve months paid in advance on a policy being paid in two instalments.

This is a conditional need, not a universal rule. We are not telling you that every consulate asks for it. Your consulate’s own current checklist is the document that decides, and it is worth reading before you choose how to pay. If it does ask, tell us at quote stage and we will set the policy up annually from the start.

Why it is easier to decide before the policy is issued

Changing payment frequency after a policy has been issued is more work than setting it correctly at the outset. If you are unsure what your consulate expects, say so when you ask for a quote and we will go through it with you.

What this connects to.

Payment is one of the last decisions in the application. These pages cover what comes before it: what actually drives the premium, how applying works step by step, the documents you will need, and choosing a start date that works with your appointment. If you have not chosen a product yet, compare the two Visado options.
