The Health Questions

The Sanitas medical questionnaire

What the health questions ask, when in the process they are asked, why accuracy matters, and what happens if you are unsure how a question applies to your history.

The Short Answer

Health questions come at application stage, not at quote.

Asking for a quote involves no medical or health information at all. The quote form does not ask for it, and you should not put any into it — including in the free-text box. Health questions belong to the application itself, where Sanitas uses them to assess the application.

That separation is deliberate. It means you can find out what is available to you, and roughly what it will cost, before disclosing anything about your health.

What Is Asked

The shape of the questionnaire.

Each person being insured answers for themselves. The questions cover current and past health rather than anything about your visa, your finances or your reasons for moving.

Per person
Every insured person has their own answers. One person’s history does not carry across to another on the same policy.
Current and past
Conditions you have now, things treated in the past, and anything currently in progress — including investigations that have not concluded.
Dates and detail
Where a question applies, it helps to have at least the month and year of diagnosis, surgery or treatment rather than a guess.
Answered once
Gathering the dates before you start means the questionnaire can be completed in one sitting rather than half-remembered.
Why Accuracy Matters

An unanswered question is not a “no”.

Answer accurately. The policy conditions are explicit that the agreement is made on the basis of the declarations in the questionnaire, and that an inaccurate or omitted declaration gives the insurer rights it would not otherwise have. That is the practical reason to take time over it, not a warning about your particular history.

Declaring a condition does not automatically mean it cannot be insured. Sanitas assesses each application on its own underwriting, and the pre-existing conditions page explains how that process works. If something in your history is complicated, ask us before you start — we can go through what a question is actually asking.

Where your answers go

Health answers form part of the application to Sanitas. They are not published, and nothing medical belongs in the quote form or the contact form. Our privacy policy sets out how application data is handled.
